BALTIMORE, MD (July 29, 2011) - Williams Scotsman, an Algeco Scotsman company and leading provider of modular space and storage solutions in North America, today announced it was selected as the modular space provider for a 38,000-square-foot school building project in Wayne County, West Virginia.
Kenova Elementary School, which serves several hundred students, was forced to end its 2010-2011 school year prematurely as a result of underground sink holes. The school district hired Williams Scotsman to provide education space for students while plans for a permanent school building are being considered.
“This project exemplifies the added value inherent in modular building,” said Joseph Lopardo, vice president of modular construction for Williams Scotsman. “In just 45 days (the duration of most students’ summer vacation), we’ll be able to provide state-of-the-art space for the 2011-2012 school year which begins in mid-August. Conventional construction simply can’t meet such a tight deadline and fast turnaround.”
The new modular Kenova Elementary School, which is being erected on the old high school football field, is comprised of classrooms, a cafeteria, teacher lounges, restrooms, two computer labs and administrative offices. Williams Scotsman, using local subcontractors, provided a complete turn-key solution consisting of utility connections, foundations, sidewalks, bus lanes, and a fire alarm and sprinkler system within an extremely accelerated schedule. The school has signed a three-year lease with Williams Scotsman for the temporary modular facility.
